Fictional example · an accountant’s storyline

For the past five years, I’ve worked as an accountant, leading a team responsible for the accounts of an ASX-listed company. Before that, I was CFO of a small business. I enjoy helping people make sense of the numbers and seeing how our decisions affect the business. I’ve found repetitive reporting less rewarding, and busy reporting periods have sometimes crowded out family time. I felt most energised in the smaller business, where I could work closely with the owner and see the difference I was making. In my next chapter, I’d like to keep that sense of contribution, with more flexibility and room to build something of my own.
